Traditionally, subsea PLEM valves used in CALM buoy and similar tanker loading and offloading systems have been operated one of three ways:

  • Diver
  • Double-acting actuator powered by a buoy mounted hydraulic power unit
  • Spring-return actuator powered by a buoy mounted hydraulic power unit
