Paladon Systems to support offshore field development in the Gulf of Mexico
Paladon Systems is delighted to announce that they have been awarded a contract for the supply of 90 scotch-yoke actuators, 2 Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs) and 2 accumulator skids.
To be fitted to 2” to 12” Class 600 to 2500 ball valves, the hydraulic spring-return actuators and control systems will be used to provide emergency shutdown, on/off and blowdown functionality via 4-20mA HART communications. In the event of loss of hydraulic pressure from the HPUs, the accumulator skids will allow for a further two valve operations before requiring recharging. EExd certified to NEC 500 standards, the systems will be suitable for use in SIL 2 applications and will operate on biodegradable fluid.
Paladon Systems’ Design Engineer, James Davies, “Traditional valve automation systems using HPUs typically require separate hydraulic distribution cabinets to control the hydraulic supply pressure to each individual actuator; however, due to the space constraints on the unmanned platforms we were tasked with integrating each HPU and hydraulic distribution cabinet into one assembly. Although integrating the HPU and hydraulic distribution cabinet functions was extremely challenging, the result is a design that is more compact and lighter than traditional system designs.”
The entire order will be assembled at Paladon Systems’ Italian facility; with engineering for the actuators and controls being managed by Paladon Systems’ Italian and UK design teams respectively.
