Paladon Systems continues to support Shell with the supply & installation of stainless steel HPUs for its St. Fergus Gas Plant
Paladon Systems has been awarded their latest contract with Shell for the supply of 4 interlocked Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs) to provide local manual control of their pipeline pig launcher and receiver at their St. Fergus Gas Plant in Scotland. The HPUs will be used to provide hydraulic power to existing double-acting linear actuators mounted on 38” gate valves and will be manufactured mainly from stainless steel due to the corrosive coastal conditions.
Applications Engineer Malcolm Norton, “St. Fergus was originally commissioned back in the early 80’s and now much of carbon steel equipment in the gas plant needs to be replaced with more corrosion resistant systems that also incorporate the latest valve automation technologies. We have previously worked with Shell to help update their Mossmorran Fractionation Plant and Braefoot Bay Marine Gas Terminal and look forward to helping them complete the rejuvenation of St. Fergus. For this contract we will not only be supplying the HPUs, but will also be responsible for flushing the applicable pipework and supervising the installation of the systems."
Initially developed by British Gas and Shell, the St. Fergus gas plant is located 40 miles north of Aberdeen and receives around 20% of the UK’s offshore gas production. Its primary function is to remove most of the ethane, all of the propane and the heavier components from the feed gases as liquids using a cryogenic process. The resulting dry gas is delivered to National Grid and the remaining liquids pumped through an overland pipeline to the Mossmorran gas fractionation plant.
